Barcelona President Confirms Limited Offer for Julian Alvarez
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has addressed the situation regarding Julian Alvarez, confirming that the offer made to Atletico Madrid carries a limited validity and will expire if no progress is made before the end of July.
This announcement marks Barcelona’s first public response since Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin attempted to shut down speculation about the Argentina striker, insisting he is not for sale and urging the Catalan club to cease their pursuit.

While Atletico maintains a firm stance, Barcelona has chosen a more restrained approach.
Reports indicate that instead of engaging in public disputes, the club decided to wait for the World Cup to conclude before re-evaluating one of their top transfer targets for the summer.
What’s the story?
The latest developments between the clubs follow Gil Marin’s strong statements, wherein he revealed he had contacted Laporta directly regarding the speculation surrounding Alvarez’s potential departure from the Metropolitano.

In remarks regarding Barcelona’s interest, the Atletico chief stated,

“I have a good personal relationship with their chairman, and I explicitly asked him to desist, making it clear that Julián is not for sale.”
Barcelona deliberately avoided responding at the time, opting not to escalate a public disagreement while Alvarez was focused on Argentina’s preparations for the World Cup final against Spain.
However, during a recent visit to the United States, Laporta was again questioned about the striker and provided a balanced response that clarified Barcelona’s position.
He was quoted by Tot Costa as stating, “I respect everyone’s opinion. We have made an offer and there it is.”

“At a certain point, probably at the end of July, we will say that the validity has ended,” Laporta added.
Barcelona refuse to be drawn into a public battle
Barcelona’s approach to the situation has remained steady throughout the transfer window.
Despite Gil Marin’s criticisms, the club has not been tempted to respond through the media or to escalate the situation with Atletico Madrid.
Instead, focus has shifted to Alvarez, who is currently prioritizing his commitments as Argentina prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Spain.
Thus, any significant developments are anticipated only after the final, once the striker’s international duties have concluded.
