Headline: Barcelona’s Midfielder Marc Casado Rejects Saudi Move for European Challenge

Barcelona found itself with a straightforward option regarding midfielder Marc Casado. The player had the chance to join Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal, with the potential deal estimated to approach €40 million. For Barcelona, parting with a La Masia graduate for such a sum would have been both financially beneficial and a strategic move as they navigate their ongoing financial and squad management.

However, Casado opted to pursue a different path.

As previously reported, the Barcelona midfielder prioritized remaining in Europe, despite the enticing offer from Saudi Arabia.

Consequently, his representatives must now identify a European club capable of meeting the terms for a permanent transfer, placing a significant workload on agent Jorge Mendes as the market accelerates.

    Casado’s Decision Complicates Barcelona’s Strategy

The decision not to entertain the Saudi offer understandably complicated matters for Barcelona.

Barcelona seeks to secure a fee exceeding €30 million for Casado, particularly given his development through La Masia. The club is aware that Al Hilal and Al Ahli could potentially increase that figure, but the decision involves more than just the seller’s wishes.

Casado is keen to make a thoughtful decision about his career and currently disregards Saudi Arabia as a viable option, leaving Barcelona waiting for opportunities within the European market.

Casado Attracts Interest from Two Clubs

As reported by SPORT, Benfica is now among the clubs considering signing Casado.

The Portuguese team seeks to bolster their midfield, and Mendes is exploring the option of moving Casado to Lisbon. Although he initially wasn’t their top choice, circumstances may shift his status to a more favorable one.

In addition, Nottingham Forest continues to express interest in the player.

Earlier in the summer, the Premier League club discussed terms with Barcelona, but at that time, the figures did not align with the Catalan club’s expectations. With Casado’s future uncertain, the possibility for renewed negotiations remains open.

    Jorge Mendes Navigates Complex Negotiations

The ongoing situation presents a delicate balance, as each party holds different preferences.

Barcelona desires a complete transfer with a valuation that reflects Casado’s worth. Meanwhile, the midfielder seeks a competitive European environment to continue his career at a high standard.

Additionally, although AC Milan was another option considered by Mendes, the Italian club has opted not to pursue a deal at this juncture. This leaves Benfica and Nottingham Forest as the most promising avenues for Casado’s potential transfer.

Barcelona had a simple solution on the table.

Marc Casado could have moved to Saudi Arabia, with interest from Al Hilal opening the door to a deal that may have brought in close to €40 million.

For Barcelona, selling a La Masia graduate for that kind of money would have been a clean piece of business and a welcome boost as they continue to manage their finances and squad.

    Casado, though, had other ideas.

As reported before, the Barcelona midfielder has made staying in Europe his priority, despite the financial appeal of Saudi football.

As a result, his representatives need to find a European club willing to meet the conditions of a permanent transfer, and with the market moving quickly, Jorge Mendes has been given plenty to do.

Casado’s decision has complicated Barcelona’s plans

Understandably, for Barcelona, the Saudi option made sense.

The club is understood to be looking for more than €30 million, while a sale would also represent a significant financial gain given Casado’s journey through La Masia.

Al Hilal and Al Ahli offered the possibility of pushing the fee even higher, but a transfer cannot be decided by the selling club alone.

Casado wants to choose the next step of his career carefully and, at this stage, does not see Saudi Arabia as the right move, leaving Barcelona waiting for the European market to provide an answer.

    Casado has two suitors

Now, as per SPORT, Benfica are one of the clubs now being considered.

The Portuguese side need midfield reinforcement, and Mendes is working on the possibility of taking Casado to Lisbon.

He was not their first choice, but circumstances could yet make him a more attractive option.

Furthermore, Nottingham Forest have also remained in the picture.

The Premier League club spoke with Barcelona earlier in the summer, although the figures discussed at the time failed to satisfy the Catalan side.

With Casado’s future still unresolved, there is room for those conversations to begin again.

Jorge Mendes faces the task of finding right fit

The situation is delicate because everyone involved wants something slightly different.

Barcelona want a permanent sale and a fee that reflects Casado’s value. The midfielder wants a competitive European project where he can continue playing at a high level.

Notably, AC Milan were another avenue explored by the agent, but the Italian side is not interested in pursuing a deal at this point in the window.

That leaves Benfica and Nottingham Forest as the most concrete possibilities for now.
