Bernardo Silva Introduced as New Real Madrid Player

Bernardo Silva, 32, was presented as a new Real Madrid player.

Thirty-three days after the official announcement of his signing, the Portuguese midfielder participated in a formal ceremony alongside club president Florentino Pérez.

This season, Real Madrid has opted for closed-door presentations, allowing only the president, the honorary president, and family members of the new recruit to attend.

Bernardo signed a contract that binds him to the club until 2028, receiving a replica of the Santiago Bernabéu as part of the presentation.

After the event, Bernardo spoke with Real Madrid TV (h/t AS), expressing his feelings about joining Real Madrid.

“Since I was a kid, when you don’t know whether you’re going to become a footballer, your dream is to play for Real Madrid. I’m very happy to be here,” he stated.

Bernardo also shared his thoughts on experiencing the club from the inside:

“I’ve already played here several times. Seeing the 15 Champions Leagues is always impressive, but seeing them here as a player is even more special. Playing for a club like this isn’t for everyone.”

He acknowledged that he grasped the magnitude of Real Madrid prior to his arrival, saying:

“When you’re in this room, you realize how big Madrid is. I already knew it, but here you feel it in person.”

Bernardo concluded his presentation by addressing the supporters, stating: “I’m very happy to be here and soon I’ll play at the Bernabeu and meet the fans.

“Now it’s time to work and keep winning trophies, which is what this club is accustomed to.”

    Bernardo’s Journey Begins

Bernardo’s journey as a Real Madrid player commenced during pre-season, where he participated in three matches and logged 192 minutes of playing time.

He joins the squad to fulfill a role that has been missing for the team over the past two seasons: a creative central midfielder. His time on the right wing now largely behind him, Mourinho has tested him in both a central role and as an attacking midfielder.

Bernardo made his competitive debut against Ferencvaros, contributing to a 2-1 victory, and later played in matches against Deportivo La Coruña and Schalke.

He will make his La Liga debut at the RCDE Stadium against Espanyol this weekend, marking the opening match of the 2026/27 season for Real Madrid.

Due to the postponement of the season opener, his first appearance at the Bernabéu is set for next Wednesday against Real Sociedad.

As a new feature this season, Real Madrid’s presentations are being held behind closed doors, with only the president, the club’s honorary president, and the new signing’s family members in attendance.

The player signed his contract tying him to the club until 2028 and was presented with the replica of the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bernardo ended his presentation with a message for the supporters, saying: “I’m very happy to be here and soon I’ll play at the Bernabeu and meet the fans.

“Now it’s time to work and keep winning trophies, which is what this club is accustomed to.”

    A utility player for Mourinho

Bernardo’s first steps as a Real Madrid player came during pre-season, when he featured in three matches and played a total of 192 minutes.

He has arrived to fill a role the team has lacked over the last two seasons: that of a creative central midfielder. His days on the right wing are now largely behind him, with Mourinho testing him both at the base of midfield and as an attacking midfielder.

The Portuguese made his competitive debut against Ferencvaros in a 2-1 victory, and subsequently played in the games against Deportivo La Coruna and Schalke.

His La Liga debut will come at the RCDE Stadium against Espanyol this weekend, in Real Madrid’s opening game of the 2026/27 season.

The 32-year-old’s first appearance at the Bernabéu will have to wait. Because of the postponement of the opening match, he is scheduled to make his home debut next Wednesday against Real Sociedad.
