Borussia Mönchengladbach Faces Uncertainty Over Daiki Hashioka’s Injury

Borussia Mönchengladbach is waiting anxiously for news regarding the fitness of defender Daiki Hashioka. The 26-year-old player was taken directly to a local hospital following the team’s 3-0 Bundesliga defeat against RB Leipzig on Saturday. Hashioka sustained the injury after a heavy collision with Leipzig’s Antonio Nusa during the second half of the match. He required extensive treatment before being substituted and subsequently transported to Leipzig University Hospital for further examination.

Reports from Kicker indicate that the club is concerned Hashioka may have sustained an injury to his cervical spine, as his neck had been immobilized and secured for safety during his transfer to the hospital.

“At this point, we don’t know anything yet,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder after the match. “He has now been taken to the university hospital. You have to be very careful when that area is affected.”

Hashioka Injury May Impact Transfer Strategy

This unfortunate incident arrives at a challenging moment for Gladbach. As Get German Football News previously discussed, the team’s right-back situation has become precarious. Hashioka had only recently joined the squad on loan from Slavia Prague after fellow defender Yukhym Konoplia suffered a knee injury during preseason preparations.

The status of Hashioka could also affect the future of American fullback Joe Scally, who was expected to depart before the transfer deadline but ended up replacing Hashioka during the game against Leipzig.

“Joe responded very well,” noted Schröder regarding Scally, who is part of the US Men’s National Team. “As soon as he came on, he was right in the game.”

Borussia Mönchengladbach face an anxious wait over the fitness of Daiki Hashioka. The Japanese defender was taken directly to hospital following Saturday’s 3-0 Bundesliga defeat against RB Leipzig. Hashioka was involved in a heavy collision with Leipzig attacker Antonio Nusa in the second half. The 26-year-old required lengthy treatment before being substituted and was subsequently transported to Leipzig University Hospital for further examinations.

According to Kicker, Gladbach are investigating whether Hashioka may have suffered an injury to the cervical spine. His neck was immobilized and stabilized as a precaution.

Hashioka injury may alter Gladbach’s transfer plans

The setback comes at an awkward time for the Foals. Get German Football News outlined Gladbach’s right-back situation in our 2026/27 tactical preview, with Hashioka only recently arriving on loan from Slavia Prague after Yukhym Konoplia suffered a knee injury in preseason.

Hashioka’s condition could also influence the club’s plans for American fullback Joe Scally, who had been expected to leave before the transfer deadline but replaced the Japanese international against Leipzig.

“Joe responded very well,” Schröder said of the USMNT international. “As soon as he came on, he was right in the game.”
