Trevoh Chalobah Departs Chelsea After 18 Years for Como

Trevoh Chalobah has offered an emotional farewell to Chelsea after spending 18 years with the club, stating how Cesc Fabregas played a key role in his decision to join Como. “He showed how much he wanted me,” Chalobah expressed.

At 27 years old, the defender recently celebrated a bronze medal with England at the 2026 World Cup. Today, he begins a new adventure in Serie A with Como, formally completing his transfer for €30 million plus add-ons and signing a contract that extends until June 2031.

Chalobah detailed on Como’s official website that it was his conversation with former Chelsea teammate Fabregas, who now coaches at Stadio Sinigaglia, that urged him to make the move.

“The call with Cesc was really good; he showed how much he wanted me,” said Chalobah.

“Knowing Cesc, obviously, he’s been at Chelsea, and I trained with him when I was younger. Now, to play under him will be amazing. For sure, I’ll give it my all. I’m excited for this new journey.”

Chalobah’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in his life, having joined Chelsea’s academy at the age of eight and ultimately progressing to the senior squad.

“An 8-year-old boy walked through those doors. A man walks out. Dream lived. Purpose fulfilled. To every academy player at Chelsea: keep believing. Your time will come. Never give up,” he shared on social media.

“After 18 years, it’s time to say goodbye to Chelsea. I arrived as a nine-year-old with a dream, and I leave as a man who’s lived that dream in ways I never imagined. This journey tested me, lifted me, and strengthened me. To every teammate, coach, staff member, and supporter, thank you for shaping me. I gave everything I had, and I’m proud of the person this club helped me become.”

“To the young players: the path won’t always be smooth. But stay ready, stay positive, and keep your faith. God’s timing is always right. Thank you all, truly, with love and gratitude.”

Chalobah also had loan spells with Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, and Lorient, but he made over 150 competitive appearances for Chelsea. He was part of the squad that secured victories in the 2021 UEFA Supercup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the Conference League.
