Borussia Dortmund’s Diant Ramaj in Talk for Potential Second Loan to FC Copenhagen

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Diant Ramaj is reportedly in discussions for a return to FC Copenhagen for a second loan spell. Ongoing negotiations between the Bundesliga club and Copenhagen involve a potential loan deal that includes a purchase option, though a final agreement has yet to be reached, according to Danish outlet Bold.dk, as well as Sky Germany and Kicker.

As of now, Ramaj has not traveled to Denmark, but he remains open to the possibility of rejoining Copenhagen, where he previously completed a successful loan during the latter half of the 2024/25 season. The proposed purchase option is said to be around €5 million, which aligns closely with the fee Dortmund paid Ajax to acquire Ramaj back in February 2025.

Despite his potential move, Ramaj has yet to make a competitive first-team appearance for Dortmund.

Copenhagen Return Would Reunite Ramaj with Successful Loan Club

Dortmund secured Ramaj’s signing from Ajax for €5 million in February 2025, and he subsequently signed a contract lasting until 2029 before heading to Copenhagen on loan. During his time with FC Copenhagen, Ramaj made 19 appearances, conceding just 14 goals and achieving ten clean sheets, contributing to the team’s domestic double success.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt prospect emphasized during his loan spell the importance of regular playing time for his development. In a March interview, he acknowledged that unseating Gregor Kobel at Dortmund would be a significant challenge but expressed confidence in his skills.

Earlier reports from Get German Football News suggested that Ramaj did not want to simply serve as a backup for Kobel, prompting Dortmund to explore alternative loan options. Heidenheim eventually emerged as the likely destination, where Ramaj returned to his former academy club and quickly became the new No. 1 goalkeeper.

Unlike his previous arrangement, Ramaj received the chance for consistent playtime at Heidenheim, even amid the team’s challenging relegation campaign. Despite his team’s struggles, he was a regular starter, though his individual performances did not always reflect positively in his statistics, particularly concerning clean sheets and goals conceded.

    Dortmund Pathway Remains Blocked

Now back with Dortmund, Ramaj’s chances of becoming the first-choice goalkeeper appear slim, as Kobel firmly occupies that role. Additional competition comes from Alexander Meyer, Patrick Drewes, and Silas Ostrzinski, further diminishing Ramaj’s prospects. His omission from the preseason trip to Japan reinforces that his future at the club is uncertain. Meanwhile, Copenhagen may soon require another goalkeeper.

For Dortmund, a loan deal with a €5 million buy option could facilitate a recovery of most or all of the investment made in Ramaj 18 months ago. For the goalkeeper, his primary motivation remains unchanged: the pursuit of regular playing time.

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Diant Ramaj could return to FC Copenhagen for a second loan spell as talks continue over an exit from the Bundesliga club. According to Danish outlet Bold.dk, Sky Germany and Kicker, Copenhagen are negotiating with Dortmund over the 24-year-old. A loan containing a purchase option is under discussion, although no agreement has yet been finalized.

Kicker reports that Ramaj has not yet travelled to Denmark. The goalkeeper is nevertheless open to returning to Copenhagen, where he enjoyed a successful loan during the second half of the 2024/25 campaign. The proposed purchase option is reportedly worth approximately €5m — roughly the same amount Dortmund originally paid Ajax to sign Ramaj in February 2025.

Ramaj has never made a competitive first-team appearance for BVB.

Copenhagen return would reunite Ramaj with successful loan club

Dortmund signed Ramaj from Ajax for €5m in February 2025. The goalkeeper signed a contract through 2029 before immediately moving to Copenhagen on loan. Ramaj went on to make 19 appearances for the Danish club, conceding only 14 goals and recording ten clean sheets while helping Copenhagen complete a domestic double.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt prospect also made clear during that spell that he viewed regular football as essential to his development. In a March interview, Ramaj expressed considerable confidence in his own abilities while acknowledging that displacing Gregor Kobel at Dortmund would represent a major challenge.

Get German Football News reported last summer that Ramaj had no intention of simply serving as Kobel’s deputy, prompting Dortmund to explore another loan. Heidenheim eventually emerged as the preferred destination. After the clubs reached an agreement, Ramaj returned to his former academy club and was immediately installed as the new No. 1.

GGFN covered the surprise decision to place Ramaj ahead of long-serving goalkeeper Kevin Müller, giving the Dortmund loanee the regular Bundesliga football he had demanded. Ramaj remained a regular despite Heidenheim’s difficult relegation campaign.

GGFN’s winter assessment of the club noted that his raw statistics — including a lack of clean sheets and a high goals-conceded total — did not accurately reflect his individual performances behind one of the league’s weakest defensive units.

    Dortmund pathway remains blocked

Ramaj has now returned to Dortmund, but his pathway remains effectively closed. Kobel remains firmly established as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, while Alexander Meyer, Patrick Drewes and Silas Ostrzinski provide additional depth. Ramaj was also left out of Dortmund’s preseason trip to Japan, further underlining that he does not feature prominently in the club’s plans. Copenhagen, meanwhile, may soon require another goalkeeper.

For Dortmund, a loan with a €5m purchase option would also offer a potential route towards recouping most or all of the fee invested in Ramaj 18 months ago. For the goalkeeper himself, the motivation remains unchanged: regular football.
