Derry City 2 – 0 Sligo Rovers FT

Derry City celebrated a 2-0 victory against Sligo Rovers in their first match under interim manager Mark Connolly at the Ryan McBride Brandywell.

The Candystripes took the lead in the 54th minute when Barry Cotter headed the ball into the net, rewarding Derry for their commanding performance. Adam O’Reilly then extended their lead with a well-placed shot.

This vital win comes after the announcement on Wednesday that manager Tiernan Lynch had left the club by mutual consent.

Derry City will look to build on this momentum as they prepare to face UC Dublin in the FAI Cup quarter-finals on Friday, 14 August.

Derry Dominates as New Era Begins

Derry started strong, with Liam Boyce’s header narrowly missing the target and Michael Duffy unable to convert a free kick. In the 15th minute, James Clarke managed to beat his defender, but his shot hit the post.

Clarke had another opportunity shortly after but failed to score from close range with a pass from Duffy.

The home side finally found the net when Darragh Burns’ corner was met with a powerful header from Cotter. Just moments later, Duffy’s effort struck the crossbar, indicating Derry’s growing confidence.
