Derry City Secures 3-0 Win Over Tolka Rovers, Advances in FAI Cup
Derry City moved into the third round of the FAI Cup following a convincing 3-0 victory against Tolka Rovers at the Brandywell. The team aimed to recover from recent European disappointment after their Europa League qualifying campaign ended during a match against CSKA Sofia, which was plagued by incidents in the stands on Thursday night.
The home team asserted their dominance from the start, although they hit the woodwork early on and were initially denied a goal. However, they took the lead in the 29th minute as Adam O’Reilly’s shot struck the post and rolled into the bottom corner.
Despite a lack of scoring opportunities, Derry extended their lead with just five minutes remaining when Ellis Chapman scored his second goal since joining Tiernan Lynch’s squad from Shelbourne.
Chapman continued to showcase his skill, netting again just before the final whistle, ensuring Derry City’s place in the draw for the next round.
The draw for the upcoming round will occur on Tuesday, 21 July.
