Headline: Giovanni Di Lorenzo Forced off for Napoli in Loss to Juventus, Reflects on Team’s Challenges
In a disappointing 2-0 loss to Juventus, Giovanni Di Lorenzo confirmed he was compelled to leave the field at halftime due to injury. Despite this setback, he expressed happiness in reconnecting with his former coach, Luciano Spalletti.
During the match, both Di Lorenzo and Kevin De Bruyne exited the game with injuries, with De Bruyne rolling his ankle. Napoli struggled to maintain their performance after the changes.
“We have many games weighing on us and I was forced to go off, which disappointed me, as I really wanted to keep going,” Di Lorenzo told DAZN Italia. He noted a missed opportunity for Napoli to take an early lead before Juventus managed to take control.
The captain expressed concerns regarding the team’s consistency, stating, “I think we are lacking consistency because we have some really good performances and alternate them with negative ones.” He acknowledged that, at this point in the season, Napoli finds themselves eight points behind their standing from last year, currently seated in eighth place alongside Bologna.
Napoli recently faced further challenges, with several key players including Stanislav Lobotka and Benoit Badiashile unavailable and the squad appearing exhausted following a midweek victory over Monza. Di Lorenzo emphasized the need for the team to unite and improve their performance in order to enhance their position in the table.
Reflecting on his reunion with Spalletti, who led the team to a Scudetto win in 2023, Di Lorenzo shared, “He asked me how my family was doing, I have a strong rapport with the coach, we had two incredible years together at Napoli with the Scudetto, and I will always remember him with pleasure.”
