The deal to sell him to the Old Trafford side had been agreed for a total package of €45m including add-ons, and was set to be finalized after he completed his World Cup campaign with Brazil.
However, amid suggestions Manchester United had changed their minds in favor of signing Roma midfielder Manu Kone, they withdrew and cited complications during his medical tests.

Atalanta director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli confessed they were “stunned” by this unexpected change, stating that there is nothing physically wrong with Ederson, and they promised to sign him to a new contract.
According to Sky Sport Italia, an agreement has been finalized, with the new contract set to run until June 2031, featuring an improved salary.
Sportitalia reports that the figures stand at €3.5m per season in wages, along with performance-related bonuses, but the deal does not include a release clause.
At 27 years old, Ederson joined Atalanta from Salernitana in the summer of 2022, with his previous contract set to expire at the end of this season.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport, the initial concern was around Ederson’s right knee, following surgery to clean up the meniscus in August 2025.
However, his performance indicates minimal impact as he played 3,169 minutes in all competitions.
