Fiorentina Considers Future of Goalkeeper David de Gea Amidst Form Concerns
Fiorentina is contemplating a potential transfer of goalkeeper David de Gea, according to a report from Viola News. The experienced Spanish goalkeeper’s recent performances have raised questions as he and the team have struggled to regain form. Additionally, his annual salary of €5.56 million is a significant factor that could incentivize the club to seek a transfer, considering they acquired him as a free agent, offering an advantageous chance for profit.
Head coach Paolo Vanoli has publicly supported De Gea, emphasizing his status as captain: having said last Friday, “De Gea is my captain, there’s no question about it.” However, club management is actively exploring alternative options to strengthen the squad.
Young goalkeeper Tommaso Martinelli, who is currently on loan at lower-tier Avellino, could be considered for the starting position based on his performance in Serie B as the season concludes.
Fiorentina is also eyeing River Plate’s Santiago Beltrán, a promising talent for whom the Argentine club is seeking around €20 million. The 22-year-old’s contract is set to expire next December, but he is garnering attention from both Inter and various clubs across the Premier League and the Bundesliga.
Additionally, Lazio’s Christos Mandas, presently on loan at Bournemouth, remains a viable candidate. A strong showing with the Cherries this season could position him to take on a significant role next year.
