Milan Rejects Galatasaray’s €30 Million Bid for Rafa Leão

Speculation surrounding Milan’s star forward Rafa Leão continues as the club has reportedly turned down a bid from Turkish outfit Galatasaray. The offer, which was valued at €30 million plus an additional €5 million in bonuses, does not meet Milan’s expectations for the player.

For months, there has been anticipation regarding a potential move for the 27-year-old, with connections to the Saudi Pro League, Türkiye’s Süper Lig, and even some interest from the Premier League. Despite the rumors, Leão has participated in pre-season under coach Ruben Amorim, which suggests that he may still remain with the team.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan appears to value Leão at €50 million, an amount they are not willing to negotiate below. The Portuguese international is currently under a contract until 2025, earning €7 million annually.

Di Marzio also noted that if Galatasaray’s pursuit of Leão fails, they are considering Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli as an alternative. Nevertheless, as reported by Daniele Longo, Galatasaray intends to present a more attractive offer to Milan.

    A Poor Gambit

It is surprising that Milan would even entertain a bid as low as €30 million, given the significant contributions Leão has made to the team. His performance was critical in their last Serie A title victory, making the rejection of this latest offer unsurprising.

Turkish teams are known for their lavish spending on player salaries, illustrated by Mo Salah’s recent transfer to Trabzonspor. Both Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe are reportedly willing to offer Leão contracts worth €12 million per year. Despite this, Milan seeks a far better offer than €35 million to consider any deal, putting rivals Fenerbahçe in a strong position in the ongoing negotiations.

For months, it has been expected that Milan’s misfiring star forward Rafa Leão will be moved on this summer.

For weeks, there have been links to the Saudi Pro League, the Süper Lig, as well as distant whispers from the Premier League, while the 27-year-old has also featured for Ruben Amorim in pre-season, hinting that staying at the club is also not out of the question.

And if the latest offer Milan have received for him is anything to go by, they may very well choose to keep him on board.

As reported by the Gianluca Di Marzio, the Rossoneri recently received an offer for Leão from Turkish giants Galatasaray amounting to €30 million plus bonuses worth €5 million, which they have rejected.

The offer falls well short of the €50m valuation Milan are expected to start negotiations at, with the Portugal international still having two more years remaining on his €7m-per-year contract.

According to Di Marzio, Galatasaray also have Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli on their shortlist if a move for Leão does not materialise. However, as reported by Daniele Longo, the Sarı-Kırmızılılar will attempt to convince Milan with a new and improved bid.

    A poor gambit

Few would have anticipated a couple years ago that Milan would ever consider an offer as low as €50 million for the player who led their last successful title charge in Serie A, so it’s no surprise they have rejected Galatasaray’s offer here, which is frankly insultingly low.

Tukish teams are willing to go above and beyond for players, especially in terms of wages, which is further exemplified by Mo Salah’s recent shock move to Trabsonzpor as well as the €12m-per-year contract both Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe are willing to offer Leão.

However, they’re going to have to a lot better than €35 million to move Milan, and given how low their latest offer was, they’ll need to make a much more improved bid to persuade them to listen at all, giving their locals rivals Fenerbahçe a massive advantage in the negotiations.
