Liverpool Enhances Defense with Young Talent Ndukwe Amidst Squad Changes
Liverpool has focused on strengthening their defensive lineup in recent transfer windows to secure the future of their backline.
In light of Ibrahima Konate’s departure on a free transfer and the anticipated exits of Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez at the end of the season, the addition of new players has become essential.

During the summer of 2025, Liverpool signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma for £26 million, followed by Jeremy Jacquet, who joined from Rennes last summer for £60 million.
Leoni is currently recovering from an ACL injury, while Jacquet is carving out a reputation as one of the most promising young centre-backs in the game.
However, these two high-profile signings are not Liverpool’s only young defensive additions.
Liverpool Completes £2.6m Signing of Ndukwe
The club has also finalized budget-friendly deals for Mor Talla Ndiaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe. While Ndiaye has already featured prominently in the first team, Ndukwe’s journey has been slightly more intricate.
The 18-year-old Austrian did not qualify for a work permit after joining for £2.6 million from Austria Vienna and was subsequently loaned to Levante.

Reports indicate that Ndukwe now meets the criteria for a work permit, and it remains uncertain if Liverpool will recall him before the completion of his loan.
One certainty is that Liverpool has pulled another masterstroke in securing Ndukwe at a low cost.
Ifeanyi Ndukwe Poised for Greatness
According to Julian Burgos, a La Liga expert, Ndukwe has the potential to rank among the best centre-backs globally.
“Since his debut against Sevilla four matches ago, he has become a regular starter for manager Luis Castro, who believes he possesses the talent to be one of the top players in the world in his position,” Burgos remarked.

Ifeanyi Ndukwe: Player Development Overview
Ndukwe, at only 18, is gaining valuable first-team experience at Levante after moving from Austria Vienna to Liverpool in August and joining the Spanish team on a season-long loan.
Standing at 1.98m, the centre-back blends aerial dominance, aggressive defending, speed in recovery, and a wide passing range—attributes ideal for playing a high defensive line.
He has featured in six La Liga matches, including four starts, and netted one goal.
As for his immediate future, the focus is on development rather than contract discussions, as Liverpool’s official announcement did not specify the duration of his permanent deal.

Having satisfied the work-permit requirements, he could be brought back in January through a potential recall clause, although the club currently prefers he continue gaining experience in Spain unless their defensive situation changes.
