Inter Milan ready third bid for Curtis Jones as Liverpool firm up replacement stance

Inter Milan are preparing to test Liverpool again for Curtis Jones, with TEAMtalk reporting that the Serie A champions are readying a third approach after two rejected offers. The developing Curtis Jones transfer story now leaves Liverpool weighing a familiar issue: protect a homegrown asset or accept that the player may see a clearer route elsewhere.

According to the report, Inter have made Jones “one of their priority midfield targets” and have been pushing since January to strike a deal. Their latest bid, valued at £21million, was turned away, and Liverpool’s stance has so far remained firm. Inter are said to believe that sum reflects the market because the midfielder has “just 12 months remaining on his current Liverpool contract”. Liverpool’s own view is very different.

Liverpool transfer stance on Curtis Jones

The key figure in this story is Liverpool’s valuation. The report states the club “continue to value Jones at a much healthier £34million”, while also making it clear they “do not want to sanction a sale for less than £30million”. That is the bracket that matters now, especially with Inter Milan expected to return with an offer of around £25million.

From Liverpool’s side, this feels straightforward. Jones remains a technically gifted squad option, he counts towards homegrown quotas, and there is no obvious pressure to undersell. Even in a market shaped by inflated fees, Liverpool will argue that replacing a player of his profile and depth value would not come cheaply.

Inter Milan interest and Jones decision

What gives this story greater substance is the player angle. TEAMtalk says Jones “is understood to be encouraged by Inter’s persistence” and that he “is open to making the move to the San Siro this summer”. That does not mean a transfer is inevitable, though it does suggest the interest has landed.

The report adds that, while Jones is willing “to fight for his place under new Liverpool head coach, Andoni Iraola”, he believes “his chances of becoming a regular starter are greater in Milan”. That is a fair assessment of his position. At Liverpool, midfield competition remains fierce and minutes are never guaranteed.

    Midfield replacement plan becomes clear

Liverpool’s thinking on a replacement is perhaps the most significant part of the update. TEAMtalk understands the club are “currently comfortable with their midfield options if Jones remains at Anfield” and that “signing another central midfielder is not viewed as a priority”.

That changes if he leaves. The position has effectively been defined in one line, “if Jones goes, Liverpool will sign a new midfielder, but if he stays, they won’t.” It is a clean internal strategy, and one that suggests Liverpool are not actively searching for additions unless circumstances force movement late in the window.
