Liverpool Legend Ian Rush Calls for Patience with New Coach Andoni Iraola
Liverpool icon Ian Rush insists that Andoni Iraola deserves time to find success at Anfield, following his recent appointment as head coach.
The 44-year-old was named as Arne Slot’s successor in June and will take charge of his first competitive match against Newcastle United on Sunday, 23 August.
Liverpool’s all-time top scorer Rush believes that the former Bournemouth manager should aim for a trophy in his debut season, but emphasized the need for Iraola to be granted the chance to implement his strategies.
“The first four or five games are going to be important,” Rush remarked. “If you start well, that will give everyone the confidence to be more successful.”
When asked about what would define success for Liverpool this season, he noted, “I’ve been asked that every year for 30 years and I always say winning the league – that’s the standard at Liverpool.” He added, “But no, he has to be given time. If we win a trophy that would be great, but if he is given time I’m sure he will deliver the goods.”

Since Iraola’s arrival, the Reds have signed centre-back Jeremy Jacquet and winger Victor Munoz.
