Headline: Juventus Considers Mateo Retegui for Forward Position Amid Transfer Activity

Juventus is actively exploring options to add another centre-forward before the summer transfer window closes, with reports suggesting that Italian international Mateo Retegui is among the players under consideration.

The club has already acquired two new strikers this summer, Randal Kolo Muani and Jeff Ekhator, but has also seen Dusan Vlahovic leave on a free transfer. Additionally, Lois Openda has been sent out on loan, and neither Jonathan David nor Arkadiusz Milik is likely to feature in manager Luciano Spalletti’s plans moving forward.

The departure of Canada international David will be crucial for Juventus to secure another attacking option before the end of the transfer window. Despite this, the club has been linked with several forwards, including Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth.

Recent reports from Tuttosport indicate that discussions regarding Retegui have resurfaced at Juventus.

The 24-year-old forward, who has been on Juventus’s radar in previous transfer windows, is well-acquainted with Spalletti, having worked with him during his tenure as head coach of the Italy national team. Additionally, Juventus sporting director Marco Ottolini holds Retegui in high regard, having facilitated his move to Serie A from Argentina last summer while he was with Genoa.

Tuttosport notes that Juventus may explore a loan arrangement for Retegui, should he show interest in returning to Serie A. This interest comes despite Retegui’s current contract with Al-Qadsiah, which sees him earning a reported €20 million per season and lasting until 2025 following his transfer from Atalanta in a deal worth €65 million.

While persuading Retegui to join Juventus may not prove difficult, negotiations related to his salary are anticipated to be a more complex challenge for the club.

Luciano Spalletti is still hoping to bring in another centre-forward before the close of the summer transfer window and reports on Thursday claim that Italy international Mateo Retegui is one of the profiles under consideration by Juventus.

TS: Retegui also of interest to Juventus

Juventus have already brought in two new centre-forwards this summer in Randal Kolo Muani and Jeff Ekhator, but have also lost Dusan Vlahovic on a free transfer, Lois Openda has been sent out on loan, whilst Jonathan David and Arkadiusz Milik are not expected to be part of Spalletti’s plans.

In fact, the departure of Canada international David is required before Juventus are able to bring in a new option in attack this summer.

Still, several attacking names have been linked with a move to the Allianz Stadium, including Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth.

Wednesday’s reports from Tuttosport claim that Retegui’s name has also re-emerged in discussions at Juventus.

He has also been under consideration in previous transfer windows, is well known to Spalletti from his time as head coach of the Italy national team and is also well thought of by Juventus sporting director Marco Ottolini, who brought Retegui to over to Serie A from Argentina in the summer of 2023 while working for Genoa.

Tuttosport’s report indicates that Juventus would most likely be looking at a potential loan deal for Retegui if he expresses an interest in returning to Serie A, given that he earns a staggering €20m-per-season salary and still has two years remaining on his contract with Al-Qadsiah after joining from Atalanta in a €65m deal last summer.

Convincing Retegui to join is not expected to be a major issue, but getting to the bottom of the salary issue could be the bigger stumbling block.
