Jamal Musiala Shares Insights on Recent Health Episodes During Friendlies

Bayern Munich player Jamal Musiala has released a detailed statement addressing the neurological condition that led to two alarming incidents during the club’s recent pre-season friendlies.

The 23-year-old midfielder experienced a second episode during Tuesday’s 4-2 victory over Heidenheim. Musiala went down in the 67th minute, having been on the pitch for just six minutes, and appeared briefly disoriented. Teammates and medical staff attended to him immediately, and he eventually got back to his feet and exited the field unassisted.

A similar situation unfolded during Saturday’s friendly match against RB Leipzig. After scoring Bayern’s third goal, Musiala fell to the ground in the 83rd minute and required medical attention before leaving the pitch. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl emphasized post-game that “the most important thing is that he’s okay.” Eberl later confirmed that the club was already aware of Musiala’s medical situation following Tuesday’s incident.

“We knew about it,” Eberl noted, opting not to share specific details but indicated that the player would provide personal clarification.

Musiala subsequently addressed his health directly.

He explained that he has been diagnosed with brief, temporary absence episodes related to a neurological dysfunction. He assured fans that he is under the care of specialists and has received approval from neurologists to continue playing football.

Musiala further emphasized that there is no additional health risk involved with maintaining his regular daily activities. He stressed that his choice to remain in the game results from close consultation with his healthcare team and his personal commitment to living as normally as possible while undergoing treatment.

    Jamal Musiala’s full statement

“First things first — I’m doing well!

“I’m especially grateful for all your messages and your support!

“I understand that many of you are worried. Today, I want to ease those concerns and explain something to you:

“I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary but readily treatable absence episodes caused by a neurological dysfunction.

“These can lead to moments like the ones that have happened recently, against Leipzig and now in Heidenheim.

“I know that at first glance they can look scary — but for me they are currently part of my everyday life. I am receiving the best possible medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my private circle are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.

“Importantly, there is no additional health risk beyond this. In close coordination and regular consultation with the experts, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with clearance from neurological specialists, continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: simply living my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion of playing football. I have taken responsibility for that.

“Overall, I feel very good and am on a good path.

“What helps me most on this journey is continuing to chase wins and titles with my team and with your amazing support.

“I hope this helps you understand me better. At the same time, I ask for your understanding that I would like to continue keeping this matter within the circle of my closest confidants, the club and the experts.

    “Thank you very much.”

Musiala had recently returned to full training after undergoing another procedure on the left foot, which had been severely injured during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. He spent the Bayern summer training camps working individually before rejoining Vincent Kompany’s squad.

The Germany international clarified that his continued training and playing are crucial for the normalcy he aims to maintain while receiving neurological care.

Musiala also requested that further details about his condition remain private, shared only among himself, his close contacts, Bayern, and the medical professionals managing his situation.

Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala has issued a detailed statement explaining the neurological condition behind two concerning on-field episodes during the German record champions’ recent pre-season friendlies.

The 23-year-old experienced a second episode during Tuesday’s 4-2 friendly victory over Heidenheim. Musiala had only been on the pitch for six minutes when he suddenly went down in the 67th minute and appeared briefly disoriented. Teammates and Bayern’s medical staff immediately attended to the German international before he was able to get back to his feet and leave the pitch under his own power.

Shortly after scoring Bayern’s third goal, Musiala went down in the 83rd minute and required treatment before leaving the pitch. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl stressed after the Leipzig match that “the most important thing is that he’s okay.” Following Tuesday’s recurrence, Eberl confirmed that the club were already aware of Musiala’s medical situation.

“We knew about it,” Eberl said, declining to discuss the details and indicating that Musiala would address the matter personally.

The Bayern attacking midfielder has now done so.

Musiala explained that doctors have diagnosed brief, temporary and treatable absence episodes connected to a neurological dysfunction. He stressed that he remains under specialist medical care and has received clearance from neurological experts to continue playing football.
