Headline: Joao Cancelo Supports Alejandro Balde Amid Uncertain Future at Barcelona
Joao Cancelo has stepped up as one of Alejandro Balde’s foremost advocates in the Barcelona locker room, providing encouragement and guidance as the young defender navigates challenges under coach Hansi Flick.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Portuguese full-back has defended his teammate in discussions with the German manager, expressing concerns among senior players regarding Balde’s current situation.
The news comes amid increasing uncertainty about Balde’s future at Barcelona.
Sources indicate that the academy product is becoming open to the possibility of leaving in January due to a lack of regular playing time.
Despite Barcelona’s issues with injuries on defense, Balde has played only 116 minutes across four games, raising concerns about his standing in Flick’s plans.

Cancelo’s backing is particularly notable, considering Balde’s initial reaction to the signing of another left-back, as he was thought to be first in line for the starting spot under Flick.
However, their relationship has since developed, with the seasoned Portuguese defender consistently motivating Balde, providing guidance and comfort during a challenging time.
Reports suggest that Cancelo has also advocated for Balde in discussions with Flick on multiple occasions.
Another Barcelona Senior Player Questions Flick
Additionally, Cancelo is not the only senior player expressing concern about Flick’s treatment of Balde. Another key player, who maintains a direct line of communication with the manager, has raised questions regarding one of his training decisions.

The issue involved a decision by Flick to alter Balde’s position during a training match, prompting the teammate to challenge the choice and question how Balde could showcase his skills when not positioned naturally.
What Happens Now?
This situation complicates Balde’s already challenging relationship with his role at Barcelona.
Having developed within the club’s academy, he now faces uncertainty regarding his long-term future.
As January approaches, support from senior players may be critical, but without increased playing opportunities, Balde might still contemplate leaving to pursue the regular football he desires.
