Juventus Fans Urge Club to Sign Emiliano Martinez Following World Cup Performance

Emiliano Martinez may have ended the World Cup final on the losing side, but his performance in Argentina’s defeat to Spain has only intensified the calls from Juventus supporters to bring him to Turin.

The goalkeeper was one of the few Argentina players to emerge with credit from the 1-0 extra-time loss, producing a string of saves to keep his side in a final they were largely second best in.

That display, coming amid a summer in which Martinez has been repeatedly linked with a move to Juventus, sent sections of the Bianconeri fanbase to social media to renew their appeals.

Juventus supporters make their case for Martinez

For some, the numbers made the argument. “Emiliano Martinez made most touches by an Argentina player against Spain, 11 saves and prevented 1.76 out of 2.76 xGOT conceded,” one supporter posted. “A must sign for Juventus!”

Others were more direct in their pleas. “Juventus. Please go lock up Emi Martinez,” wrote one, while another simply urged: “Dibu Martinez come to Juventus.”

Not everyone was swept away entirely, with one fan offering a note of realism about the context. “Emi Martinez is still a top-level keeper and his World Cup performance was impressive,” they wrote. “Granted, the Argentina kit is like a Superman costume for him, but I’d be happy to have him at Juve if it were to materialize.”

The reaction feeds into an ongoing transfer saga.

Juventus have been in the market for a new goalkeeper with Michele Di Gregorio expected to move on, and the Argentine, available from Aston Villa, who have been seeking around €10 million, has been a recurring name alongside the likes of Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario. His World Cup showing, if anything, has only sharpened the appetite among supporters for the club to get a deal done.
