Argentina Ends World Cup Run in Controversial Defeat to Spain

Argentina’s World Cup journey concluded with a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the final, marred by post-match violence.

Following the final whistle in New Jersey, chaotic scenes unfolded as Spain’s substitutes rushed onto the pitch to celebrate their victory.

In the midst of the chaos, Argentina defender Nahuel Molina appeared to throw a punch at a Spain player as he passed by. Concurrently, midfielder Leandro Paredes was seen pushing Spain’s Eric Garcia by the throat.

Paredes then tackled Spain’s Gavi, shoving him to the ground and appearing to kick out at him.

Argentina aimed to secure a second consecutive World Cup title for captain Lionel Messi, who was playing on the World Cup stage for the final time.

However, the actions of the Argentine team drew condemnation, tarnishing Spain’s well-deserved victory.

Gary Neville expressed his disappointment, stating on ITV, “It’s a disgrace. I appreciate the competitive spirit of the Argentines, but it’s been disgraceful in their last few games.”

Alan Shearer on BBC commented, “Paredes threw two or three haymakers into someone’s face. He went for them. There is no place for that.” He added, “While losing is painful, there is an appropriate way to handle defeat. Argentina’s reaction after the final whistle is far from acceptable.”
