Fenerbahçe Signs Mason Greenwood in Club-Record Deal
While the World Cup semifinal currently captures global attention, officials at Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe shifted the focus to their own major acquisition by announcing the club-record signing of Mason Greenwood during halftime.
The 24-year-old forward transfers from Olympique Marseille to Istanbul. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Fenerbahçe will pay an initial 40 million euros for the player, with an additional two million euros potentially included in performance-based bonuses. This deal eclipses the club’s previous record signing, Mattéo Guendouzi, who joined for 28 million euros.
Manchester United, Greenwood’s former club, will earn more than ten million euros from the transfer as part of a sell-on clause. Greenwood has committed to a contract with the Turkish side running until June 2030. Reports indicate his net annual salary will reach approximately ten million euros, tripling his previous earnings in Marseille. During the last season, Greenwood directly contributed to 37 goals, consisting of 26 goals and 11 assists.
