Liverpool Appoints Alejandro Rosalen as New Goalkeeping Coach for 2026-27 Season

Liverpool have confirmed the appointment of Alejandro Rosalen as the club’s new first-team goalkeeping coach ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The 49-year-old Spaniard joins head coach Andoni Iraola’s backroom staff following the departure of Xavi Valero, who left Anfield at the end of last season after just one year in the role.

Rosalen arrives on Merseyside with extensive experience across European football.

He spent the last five years working with Napoli in Serie A, where he helped oversee the development of the club’s goalkeepers during a successful period in Italian football.

Before moving to Naples, Rosalen enjoyed an eight-year spell with Fiorentina and also worked in Hungary with Videoton, adding to a coaching career that began at Valencia in his native Spain.

Liverpool’s decision to recruit Rosalen continues Iraola’s reshaping of his coaching staff as preparations intensify for the new Premier League campaign.

Goalkeeping coaches have become increasingly influential in the modern game, with responsibilities extending beyond shot-stopping to include distribution, build-up play and tactical organisation.

Rosalen will now be tasked with working closely with Liverpool’s senior goalkeepers as the club aims to challenge for major honours this season.

Alongside the coaching appointment, Liverpool’s preparations for pre-season are continuing on several fronts.

Young goalkeeper Armin Pecsi is expected to spend the upcoming campaign on loan with Austrian Bundesliga side TSV Hartberg.

The 21-year-old will therefore not travel on Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the United States as the club looks to provide him with regular first-team football.

Pecsi joined Liverpool from Hungarian side Puskas Akademia last summer and has impressed during his first year at the club.

Although he was an unused substitute for the senior side on several occasions last season, most of his football came with Liverpool’s Under-21 team.

His progress was also recognised internationally after making his senior debut for Hungary earlier this year.

Liverpool have meanwhile announced a 31-man squad for their United States tour, although several players remain unavailable through injury or delayed arrivals.

Jayden Danns misses out with a hamstring problem, while Wataru Endo, Giovanni Leoni, Conor Bradley, Stefan Bajcetic and Hugo Ekitike will continue their rehabilitation during the trip.

Several players involved in the recent World Cup, including Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch, are expected to link up with the squad later in the tour after being granted additional time off following international duty.

With a new goalkeeping coach now in place and pre-season well underway, Liverpool’s preparations for the new campaign are gathering momentum under Iraola.
