Manchester City Kicks Off 2026-27 Preseason Under New Manager Enzo Maresca

Manchester City has entered a new chapter following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. Pep Guardiola has stepped down as the club’s manager after a decade of impressive success, paving the way for Enzo Maresca to take the helm. The transition has been apparent as Manchester City’s 2026-27 preseason commenced today.

Enzo Maresca Takes Command as Preseason Begins for Manchester City

The club marked the start of its preseason with a series of images shared on their official X account. One notable set of photos captured Enzo Maresca leading his first training session with the team. After years of seeing Guardiola in charge, it is now Maresca’s turn to guide the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders, a change that was evident in the latest updates from the club.

Forgotten Players Make Their Return to Manchester City Training

Alongside the photos, Manchester City released a video showcasing highlights from the initial training session. Players such as Claudio Echeverri, Vitor Reis, Rico Lewis, Max Alleyne, Divin Mubama, and Stephen Mfuni were seen on the training ground, all eager to make a strong impression on their new manager in the weeks ahead.

Additionally, Abdukodir Khusanov, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Phil Foden also joined the training today. While Donnarumma and Foden enjoyed some time off after not participating in the World Cup, Khusanov, who played for Uzbekistan in the tournament, returned early due to his team’s quick exit. All three are expected to play a significant role in Maresca’s strategy this season.

The start of the 2026-27 preseason signifies an exciting new era for Manchester City, highlighted by the image of Enzo Maresca leading his first training session. While there’s anticipation for what’s ahead, it is undeniably peculiar to witness a squad transitioning away from the influence of Guardiola.
