Liverpool Faces Competition from Manchester City for Rising Star Ayyoub Bouaddi

Liverpool has been keeping a close watch on Ayyoub Bouaddi, recognizing the young midfielder’s exceptional talent, composure, and temperament—qualities that clubs often spend years seeking. However, according to talkSPORT, Liverpool may find the situation challenging if Manchester City accelerates their pursuit.

The 18-year-old Lille player has emerged as one of Morocco’s standout figures following the recent World Cup, significantly raising his profile. Liverpool has monitored his progress, while Arsenal and Chelsea have also been noted as interested parties. The main issue for Liverpool lies in execution; interest alone may not secure the deal, as City becomes increasingly confident in finalizing a transfer.

Manchester City Move in Bouaddi Race

Lille has set a hefty price tag of £85.3 million for Bouaddi, a significant amount for an 18-year-old midfielder, even in today’s market. Previously, Lille had shown willingness to negotiate, accepting around £68.2 million if the buying club allowed Bouaddi to stay in France for another season or structured the move as a pre-agreement. Nevertheless, City is keen on acquiring him immediately.

This key detail signifies City’s intention; they are not looking for a loan-back arrangement and want Bouaddi to join the first-team squad under Enzo Maresca without delay. When a club of City’s magnitude and financial capability reaches this point, the ongoing chase often resolves quickly.

World Cup Form Raised Lille Midfielder Value

Bouaddi’s impressive performance during the World Cup has significantly boosted his market appeal. He started in all but one of Morocco’s matches, with a standout performance against Brazil, where he recorded the highest number of touches, duels won, and passes completed in the opposition half. Additionally, he became the second-youngest player in six decades to complete over 50 passes in a World Cup match, finishing with a total of 60.

His strong showings continued against Scotland, the Netherlands, and Canada, although he faced tougher competition from France, which is common for young midfielders. Overall, he remains one of the most highly-rated young talents in Europe.

Liverpool Transfer Question Now Looks Familiar

This situation seems like another instance where Liverpool’s admiration for a player may not translate into action. Bouaddi embodies the modern elite profile—mobile, disciplined, technically proficient, and mature beyond his years. If City is willing to meet Lille’s demands and integrate him directly into Maresca’s plans, Liverpool may find themselves at a disadvantage.

    Our View

This frustration is evident for Liverpool. The club often appears to be “monitoring,” “tracking,” or “admiring” elite young players, only to see rival clubs secure their signatures. Fans have become accustomed to this pattern, which is becoming tiresome.

Bouaddi fits the mold of a midfielder Liverpool should actively pursue, especially given his experience in high-stakes tournaments at just 18 years old. If scouting efforts and discussions have taken place, the current inertia while Manchester City proactively negotiates is puzzling.

The £85.3 million fee is undeniably high. However, exceptional talent demands substantial investment. Lille had previously shown flexibility in negotiations, which only adds to the frustration of this scenario. There seemed to be an opportunity to arrange the deal differently, but City appears determined to navigate through the complexities while Liverpool risks being seen as reactive rather than assertive.

Although supporters do not expect every target to sign, they anticipate that a club of Liverpool’s stature should secure more of these opportunities when they arise. Bouaddi possesses the age, potential, versatility, and top-level experience that are increasingly rare and expensive to find.

If the current report holds true, Liverpool may watch as one of Europe’s best young midfielders reinforces a direct competitor. This situation does not stem from bad luck, but rather from a failure to adopt a more aggressive approach when necessary.
