Liverpool Aims to Strengthen Squad Ahead of New Premier League Season

Liverpool need to bolster their ranks before the start of the 2026-27 Premier League season comes around.

It’s now around a month until Liverpool face Newcastle during their opening game of the campaign and, at the moment, it feels like neither team are ready to take the season on.

Both clubs have missed out on some of their main targets this summer with Liverpool even managing to poach the Magpies’ move for Victor Munoz.

Last term, Newcastle’s fans weren’t best pleased by Liverpool as they signed Alexander Isak from their club and then took their number one replacement away from them as well in Hugo Ekitike.

New players are being linked with Liverpool almost every day and now, the Reds have been told how much they’d need to spend to get a deal for one of their long-term targets over the line.

Liverpool would need to spend at least £42.7 million to sign Maghnes Akliouche this summer

Despite them signing Munoz, Liverpool still need to add another attacker or two to their ranks.

Arne Slot and Richard Hughes failed to replace Luis Diaz last summer and, now that Mohamed Salah has exited, they’re still an attacker down.

Many different players have been mentioned as potential targets but, there’s one player which has recently popped back up as an option.

And, that player is, Maghnes Akliouche. The ‘magic‘ AS Monaco star was probably expecting to be a Paris Saint-Germain player by now but, since the two Ligue 1 clubs can’t agree on a fee, a deal has not yet been made.

This led to the door re-opening for Liverpool to make a potential move and now, James Pearce has shared how much the Reds believe that they’d need to spend to sign the Frenchman this summer.

“They’ve certainly had some discussions about it,” he said to GiveMeSport.

“I was told yesterday that there had been an approach earlier on in the window for the Monaco right-winger, and he is just one of a number of targets being kind of assessed at the minute.

“I think you’d be looking at £42.7m-£51.3m for Akliouche, so yeah, he’s certainly one that I say is a possibility, rather than a kind of definite they’ll be making a move for him.”

Maghnes Akliouche isn’t a good enough signing to help Liverpool win the Premier League

Even though Akliouche would provide Liverpool with some decent cover on the right-wing, he’s not a world-beater yet.

Admittedly, most of the attackers that the Reds have been linked with this summer have been underwhelming with Yan Diomande the only exception.

Although the Ivorian is younger and has less experience than Akliouche, you can just tell that the RB Leipzig ace is a star in the making.

Iraola has said that he wants to build a team that Liverpool’s fanbase can be proud of and, even though Akliouche would provide solid depth, it doesn’t feel like he’d be able to fill the void left by Salah.

Last term, the Frenchman played as a striker and a right-winger for Monaco so, his versatility is clearly there.

But, he only bagged seven goals across all competitions and only managed to chip in with 11 assists for his teammates.

And, while these numbers are promising, they don’t really scream Premier League winner, especially for the £50 million they’d need to spend to bring him in.

There’s obviously no knowing what the future has in store but, at the moment, it feels like Liverpool should try and focus their attention on bringing someone else in, rather than the Monaco star.
