Liverpool Ponder Another Transfer Hijack as Newcastle Eye €60m Deal for Johan Manzambi

Liverpool appear ready to challenge Newcastle United once again as the Magpies look to finalize a €60m transfer.

Liverpool have developed a habit of hijacking Newcastle United’s transfer targets. This trend began with Dominik Szoboszlai in 2023, followed by the pursuit of Hugo Ekitike in 2025 and another successful interception earlier this summer.

The Magpies previously believed they had secured Victor Munoz from Osasuna after the player completed a medical. Instead, Liverpool intervened and signed the Spaniard themselves.

This history also includes the transfer of Alexander Isak, who was a Newcastle target before Liverpool secured his signature last year. The Magpies will certainly be weary of this recurring pattern.

Now, the situation may repeat itself. Journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Newcastle have reached an agreement with Freiburg to sign midfielder Johan Manzambi.

A €60m fee is already set, and Newcastle officials are working to push the deal through as quickly as possible to prevent any potential hijack attempts from other Premier League clubs. Many suggest Liverpool should pay close attention to this development.

We’re massive fans of the midfielder, who ranks among the best all-around players in his age group. Manzambi contributes effectively in both attack and defense, making him an ideal long-term signing for Liverpool.

With reports suggesting that Curtis Jones is about to leave the club, Manzambi represents a perfect replacement. He is precisely the type of acquisition Liverpool should pursue, particularly at the €60m price point.

Newcastle seem set to acquire a significant talent, but they have faced disappointment in similar situations before. Liverpool frequently serve as the club that prevents them from finalizing such deals.

There is a strong case for Liverpool to repeat their recent history. Manzambi possesses the type of talent that typically doubles in market value following a high-profile season, which is expected to occur next year.
