Liverpool Sign England Goalkeeper Khiara Keating on Free Transfer

Liverpool have signed England goalkeeper Khiara Keating on a free transfer from Manchester City.

The 22-year-old leaves City following the expiry of her contract and reunites with manager Gareth Taylor, who she worked with in Manchester.

In June, BBC Sport reported that Keating had turned down a contract extension offer at City amid interest from Liverpool.

Keating is a graduate of the Manchester City academy and helped them win a second Women’s Super League title last season.

“[Liverpool is] such a big club and I think the women’s team is striving for greatness,” said Keating.

“I think the style of football that they play suits me and my position. They’re just going in the right direction and [it is] a project that I want to be part of.”

Keating, who made her England debut at Etihad Stadium in October 2025, becomes Liverpool’s fourth signing of the summer.

She had to compete with Japan’s Ayaka Yamashita for City’s number one shirt last season and only started four WSL games as they also won the Women’s FA Cup.

Keating is still regarded as one of the country’s best young goalkeepers and was called up by England manager Sarina Wiegman for June’s crucial Women’s World Cup qualifying matches against Spain and Ukraine, but missed out with concussion.

She was part of the triumphant Euro 2025 squad and will want to regain a regular spot for next year’s Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Liverpool boss Taylor handed Keating her WSL debut and oversaw her breakout campaign in 2023-24.

During that season, aged 19, she became the youngest goalkeeper to win the WSL Golden Glove award, keeping nine clean sheets in total.

Keating, who had previous short loan spells at AFC Fylde and Coventry United, also has Women’s Champions League experience.

“The start of my career has been nothing but amazing. I’ve gained platforms and done brilliantly so far. But I needed that missing [piece of the] puzzle,” she added.

“I think Liverpool can be that – somewhere I’m playing week-in, week-out and I’m getting good game time, to play with a good team and win trophies.”

Liverpool were in the market for a goalkeeper after Jennifer Falk’s successful loan move ended in May and hopes for a permanent deal fell through.
