Romelu Lukaku Joins Fenerbahce from Napoli

Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku has signed with Turkish club Fenerbahce, moving from Napoli. The 33-year-old forward faced a challenging season last year, dealing with injuries that limited him to just seven appearances across all competitions for the Serie A team.

Lukaku returns to Turkey, where he spent part of his childhood during the 1996-1997 season while his father, Roger, played for Genclerbirligi in the Super Lig. “It’s an honour and a privilege to be joining your club,” Lukaku stated in a social media video directed at Fenerbahce supporters. He added, “I am fit, 100%, ready to go. It is an emotional moment after many years to be going back to Turkey where I lived as a young kid, where I discovered the professional world as a toddler with my dad.”

Details regarding the transfer fee and the length of his contract have not been made public. Despite last season’s injury setbacks, Lukaku managed to score three goals at the summer World Cup.

Throughout his career, Lukaku has achieved several titles, including a Belgian championship with Anderlecht, a FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea, and a Scudetto with both Inter Milan and Napoli. He is the second former Manchester United player to join Fenerbahce this summer, following the signing of Mason Greenwood from Marseille.

Fenerbahce has not captured the Turkish league title since 2014 and has finished as runners-up to Galatasaray in the last four seasons.

Despite an injury-hit campaign last season, the former Chelsea, Everton and Manchester United forward scored three goals at this summer’s World Cup.

Lukaku has won the Belgian championship with Anderlecht, a Fifa Club World Cup with Chelsea, and a Scudetto with both Inter Milan and Napoli.

He is the second former United forward to join the club this summer after Mason Greenwood was signed from Marseille.

Fenerbahce, who have finished runners-up to Galatasaray for the last four seasons, are without a Turkish league title since 2014.
