Headline: Manchester City’s £80m Chase for Gakpo May Fail as Liverpool Plans Shift

Manchester City’s attempt to secure Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo for £80m is reportedly on the verge of collapse.

The club initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding the acquisition of the Netherlands international, who the Reds indicated they would sell, contingent upon finding a replacement.

Liverpool recently finalized the signing of French forward Bradley Barcola from Paris St-Germain for a fee potentially reaching £123m on Monday. However, the team wants to secure another attacking player if Gakpo is to be transferred.

The club had considered potential moves for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr, but negotiations for both players have encountered valuation challenges.

Liverpool is now likely to retain Gakpo, 27, unless a deal for a new winger materializes before the Tuesday deadline.

In light of the developments regarding Gakpo, City is reportedly eyeing Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye and may shift focus to the winger.

Ndiaye, 26, was anticipated to join Tottenham, but City’s continued interest may lead to a new pursuit of the Senegal international.
