Manchester City’s preparations for their first season under new head coach Enzo Maresca have hit a significant hurdle, as midfield star Rodri is set to have back surgery.
According to The Athletic, the 30-year-old recently contributed to Spain’s World Cup victory, but there is currently no established timeline for his return following the procedure.

Rodri has a history of injury issues with the club, having missed nearly the entire 2024/25 season and starting just 17 Premier League matches last season.
To mitigate Rodri’s absence, City recently signed Elliot Anderson, but there are concerns about Anderson’s reported desire to join Real Madrid amidst ongoing contract negotiations.
The team is scheduled to kick off their 2026/27 Premier League campaign at home against Bournemouth on 23 August, with many expecting Maresca to lead the club in a title challenge against key rivals Arsenal.
