After their first loss of the 2026/27 Premier League season against Aston Villa at Villa Park, City managed to be eliminated by Brighton & Hove Albion in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, losing in a penalty shoot-out after a 2-2 draw.
However, Fabian Hurzeler executed a successful strategy just three days later, securing a 1-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League, which brought them just two points behind City in the league standings, while Arsenal took the lead in first place.
In terms of Manchester City’s performance in the UEFA Champions League this season, their group stage commenced on a positive note with a 2-0 away win against FC Porto. However, they subsequently faced defeat against Paris Saint-Germain at the Etihad in their second match, losing 4-2 to the reigning European champions. They later bounced back with an impressive 5-1 victory over AEK Athens, highlighted by a hat-trick from Phil Foden, along with goals from Rayan Cherki and Elliot Anderson.
