Manchester City Plans New Contracts for Key Players

    • Hugo Viana and Manchester City are set to agree a further two new contracts.

    • The developments come after formal announcement of Phil Foden’s newly-signed deal until 2030 with the option of a further 12 months.

    • City are continuing to move towards a further agreement for Josko Gvardiol and face doubts over Rodri’s answer to their proposal.

A further two new contracts within Manchester City’s first team are due to follow Phil Foden’s agreement which was announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The England international, who missed out on Thomas Tuchel’s England squad list for the now-concluded FIFA World Cup, has seen faith instilled in him by his club through a new contract until the summer of 2030.

That deal also includes the option to extend until the summer of 2031, with Manchester City insistent on retaining Foden despite a difficult last two seasons both in terms of performances and consistency.

While supporters will no doubt be keen to follow any developments concerning new signings and possible departures this summer, a similar focus of importance is being placed on the retaining of key stars for the future as well as the present.

Man City Close in on Khusanov and Doku Contracts

Now, according to The Athletic’s Sam Lee, both Abdukodir Khusanov and Jeremy Doku are set to agree terms on new Manchester City contracts until 2031, with confirmation of the Uzbekistan international’s deal expected shortly.

As for the extension for Doku, a formal announcement on the Belgian’s contractual reward is expected to arrive later after the winger instructed advisors to take care of the new deal while away at the FIFA World Cup with Belgium, with no intention of looking for a new club.

What is the Latest on Other Contract Extensions?

Elsewhere, Josko Gvardiol is expected to be the next player to formally sign on to a new contract at the Etihad Stadium, despite weighing up his options concerning his future earlier this summer.

The Croatian defender, who can operate at both centre-back and left-back, is expected to commit his future to Manchester City until the summer of 2031, despite claims of interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and in Spain.

The biggest story of the summer could yet surround FIFA World Cup-winning captain Rodri, who is seemingly hesitant to sign on to Manchester City’s contractual proposal, and a deal that could make him one of the Etihad Stadium’s leading earners.

Real Madrid are monitoring the situation closely, and given the midfielder’s success in North America this summer, the Bernabeu could be Rodri’s new home amid his public desire to return to Spain at some stage in his top-level career.
