Jose Mourinho Plans Major Lineup Changes for Real Madrid vs. AEK Athens

Real Madrid Aims for Seventh Straight Win Against AEK Athens in UEFA Champions League

Real Madrid will attempt to extend their impressive winning streak when they take on AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League tonight. Los Blancos head to Greece with six consecutive victories under their belt, looking to reach seven and maintain their strong momentum.

However, manager Jose Mourinho plans to implement notable changes to his starting lineup, as several key players will be rested for the weekend.

Mourinho has already left Arda Guler and Aurelien Tchouameni out of the squad for the match, choosing to give them a break.

Mourinho Planning Major Defensive and Midfield Reshuffle

According to COPE (h/t Madrid Xtra), Mourinho is set to make extensive rotations. Alvaro Carreras, Antonio Rudiger, and Denzel Dumfries are anticipated to start in defense, with Rudiger partnering Dean Huijsen to give Konate a much-needed rest.

Changes in midfield will also be evident, with captain Fede Valverde expected to return alongside Eduardo Camavinga, the latter having impressed in recent outings.

Recognized for his recent performances, Camavinga will be eager to make a significant impact in this match. Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva, having been in excellent form lately, is expected to receive some rest.

Brahim Diaz Set for Rare Starting Opportunity

In the forward line, Brahim Diaz is likely to fill in for Guler on the right side, providing a similar skill set to Mourinho’s attack. Diaza’s playmaking ability mirrors that of the Turkish player, as he awaits his opportunity to shine.

On the opposite wing, Vinicius Jr. is almost certain to be included in the starting eleven after serving a suspension during recent domestic games.

As a result of these adjustments, Yan Diomande is likely to receive a rest after an extended period of game time, as Mourinho aims to balance player stamina.

The critical question remains whether Mourinho will grant Kylian Mbappe a break, allowing Carlos Espi a chance to start for Los Blancos. Tonight could potentially mark that opportunity.

Despite these multiple changes, Real Madrid should maintain confidence in achieving a victory in Greece as they prepare for the match.
