Norwich City Set to Face West Brom in Championship Opener

Norwich City is gearing up for the start of their Championship season with a match against West Bromwich Albion at Carrow Road on Saturday at 15:00 BST.

The Canaries secured a solid 4-1 victory over MK Dons in the EFL Cup’s first round last weekend, while the Baggies matched that scoreline with a victory against Rotherham to advance to round two.

In recent years, Norwich’s opening day performance has been less than stellar, with Philippe Clement’s team losing four of their last five curtain-raisers in the Championship. In contrast, West Brom has shown resilience, losing only once on their opening day in the past five years, starting last season with a 1-0 win over Blackburn.

Key stats leading into the match indicate Norwich’s competitive edge:

    • Norwich City has triumphed in their last two encounters against West Bromwich Albion across all competitions, and they have won three of their last four meetings overall (L1); a win would mark their first three consecutive victories against the Baggies since November 1995.

    • West Bromwich Albion has managed just one win in their last five league encounters with Norwich City (D1 L3), though they did secure a 1-0 victory in this fixture last season.

    • Currently, no other side has accumulated more points in the Championship this year than Norwich (44 – W14 D2 L6), and they have lost only twice in their past 10 league matches at Carrow Road (W6 D2).

    • West Brom struggled in away matches last season, earning just 19 points, with only Sheffield Wednesday (8 excluding deductions) and Oxford United (18) finishing lower in that regard. Notably, eight of those points came after James Morrison’s appointment as manager (W2 D2 L2).

    • Norwich’s Mohamed Toure had an impressive last season, averaging more goals (1.36) and goal involvements (1.82) per 90 minutes than any other player with at least 450 minutes played in the EFL Championship, although the majority of his contributions came in away games.

As both teams gear up for the clash, fans eagerly anticipate what should be an exciting start to the Championship season.

Norwich City begin their Championship season with the visit of West Brom to Carrow Road on Saturday (15:00 BST).

The Canaries overcame MK Dons 4-1 in the EFL Cup first round last weekend while the Baggies beat Rotherham by the same scoreline to reach round two.

Philippe Clement’s side have lost four of their past five opening day fixtures in the Championship while Albion have lost just once in five years and began last season with a 1-0 win at home to Blackburn.

    • Norwich City have won each of their past two games against West Bromwich Albion in all competitions, and three of their previous four overall (L1); they could win three in a row against the Baggies for the first time since November 1995.

    • West Bromwich Albion have won just one of their past five league games against Norwich City (D1 L3), though it was a 1-0 victory in this exact fixture last season.

    • No side has won more points in the Championship in 2026 than Norwich (44 – W14 D2 L6), while they’ve only lost two of their past 10 league games at Carrow Road (W6 D2).

    • Only Sheffield Wednesday (8 excluding deductions) and Oxford United (18) collected fewer away points in the EFL Championship last season than West Brom (19); though eight of those points came following the appointment of James Morrison (W2 D2 L2).

    • Among players with at least 450 minutes in the EFL Championship last season, Norwich’s Mohamed Toure averaged more goals (1.36) and goal involvements (1.82) per 90 minutes than any other player, though nine of his 12 goal involvements came in away games.
