West Ham Parts Ways with Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo
West Ham United has announced the departure of head coach Nuno Espírito Santo following a disappointing beginning to the season. The Portuguese coach faced mounting pressure due to a lackluster performance, leaving the team ranked eighth in the Championship after 13 games.
The team’s recent 3-1 defeat at home to West Bromwich Albion, marking their second consecutive loss at the London Stadium, has significantly contributed to the growing scrutiny on Nuno’s position.
In an official statement, the club confirmed, “West Ham United can confirm that men’s first-team Head Coach Nuno Espírito Santo has left his position with immediate effect. Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the Club’s objectives and expectations remain on track.”
In addition, the club announced that Assistant Head Coach Rui Pedro Silva and Goalkeeper Coach Rui Barbosa have also left their roles. They expressed gratitude towards Nuno and his staff for their hard work and commitment during their tenure.
The search for a new head coach is already underway, with Mark Noble, Steve Potts, and Gerard Prenderville stepping in to temporarily manage squad preparations ahead of the upcoming EFL Championship match against Cardiff City. The club intends to remain silent on further details until a new appointment is confirmed.
