Bayern Munich Retains German Super Cup with Narrow Victory Over Borussia Dortmund

Bayern Munich successfully defended their title in the German Super Cup, edging out Borussia Dortmund with a 2-1 victory. The match took place following Dortmund’s qualification through a second-place finish in the previous season, during which they secured both the Bundesliga and the German Cup.

The defending champions opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a goal from Nathaniel Brown, a German left-back. Shortly thereafter, Bayern doubled their lead when Michael Olise capitalized on a misplaced pass in Dortmund’s midfield. Demonstrating impressive speed, Olise charged into the penalty area, overcoming a push that knocked him off balance to slot a left-footed finish into the far corner despite the angle being tight.

Dortmund attempted to respond, having a first-half goal from Ramy Bensebaini ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee. They did manage to pull one back with just 15 minutes remaining, as former Wolves striker Fabio Silva found the back of the net.

However, the match took a turn for the worse for Dortmund when Bensebaini received a red card in the 90th minute for a late challenge on Morocco forward Ismael Saibari.

Bayern’s England captain, Harry Kane, who was recently awarded the Golden Shoe as Europe’s top goalscorer for the second time, led the line for his team but was unable to find the net in his first competitive start of the season.

Michael Olise produced a stunning finish as Bayern Munich narrowly overcame Borussia Dortmund to retain the German Super Cup.

With Vincent Kompany’s side winning both the Bundesliga and German Cup last season, Dortmund qualified for the annual match through their second-place finish.

Bayern, who won the trophy last year thanks to goals from Harry Kane and Luis Diaz, took the lead in the 28th minute through German left-back Nathaniel Brown.

They did not have to wait long to take a two-goal advantage, as Olise latched on to a loose pass in the Dortmund midfield and used his pace to burst into the box.

Despite being knocked off balance, the Frenchman was able to stab a left-footed finish into the far corner from a tight angle.

Dortmund – for whom Ramy Bensebaini had a first-half goal ruled out for offside by the video assistant referee – did pull one back with 15 minutes to play through former Wolves striker Fabio Silva.

Defender Bensebaini was then shown a red card in the 90th minute for a late challenge on Morocco forward Ismael Saibari.

England captain Kane – awarded the Golden Shoe on Wednesday as Europe’s top goalscorer for the second time in his career – started up front for Bayern.

But he could not find the net as he made his first competitive start of the new campaign.
