Cagliari Secures Hard-Fought Victory Against Parma

Cagliari struck the woodwork three times before Alessandro Romano’s spectacular goal clinched a deserved win away at Parma. The match held significance as an early relegation battle, featuring two teams that underwent considerable roster changes over the summer.

Parma’s Sascha Britschgi served a suspension, while teammates Hans Nicolussi Caviglia and Benjamin Cremaschi dealt with injuries. Cagliari faced their own challenges, with striker Yael Trepy in recovery from a swimming pool accident that had placed him in an induced coma last week, although he emerged from intensive care just a day prior. Additionally, Sebastiano Esposito was sidelined due to a contract dispute, and Riyad Idrissi remained unavailable as a long-term absentee.

During the match, Daniel Maldini almost gave Parma the lead with a curling shot that skimmed the far post. Cagliari’s Paul Mendy came close to scoring as well, but his effort was deflected off the post. Just before halftime, Cagliari’s Alessandro Deiola nearly capitalized on a free kick, only for his glancing header to hit the base of the upright.

In the second half, Harry Winks tested Parma’s goalkeeper with a missed opportunity, while Simone Lontani struggled to keep his shot down amid an awkward bounce. Cagliari hit the post again when Jacopo Fazzini’s strike was thwarted by a deflection off goalkeeper Edoardo Corvi.

Cagliari finally took the lead with a brilliant long-range shot from Alessandro Romano, whose powerful strike bent past Corvi into the top corner. Romano celebrated the goal by lifting the jersey of his absent teammate Trepy.

Parma had a chance to equalize in stoppage time when Nesta Elphege found himself with a free header, but unfortunately, he could not convert.

The match ended with Cagliari earning a crucial 1-0 victory on the road.

Cagliari hit the woodwork three times before Alessandro Romano’s screamer finally secured a deserved victory away to Parma.

This already felt like an early relegation tussle, with two teams who had many changes during the summer. Sascha Britschgi sat out a ban for the hosts, with Hans Nicolussi Caviglia and Benjamin Cremaschi injured. The Sardinians were shaken by striker Yael Trepy’s swimming pool accident a week ago, which saw him placed in an induced coma, but he came out of intensive care yesterday. Sebastiano Esposito was frozen out over a contract dispute, with Riyad Idrissi a long-term absentee.

Daniel Maldini’s right-foot curler skimmed the far post from outside the area, but Paul Mendy was unlucky not to put Cagliari in front when he turned Mariano Troilo, the deflected finish clipping the far post.

The Sardinians again came so close in first half stoppages, as the Alessandro Deiola glancing header on an Alessandro Romano free kick struck the base of the back stick.

Harry Winks tested the goalkeeper with a scuffed finish, while Simone Lontani couldn’t keep his finish down after an awkward bounce on the Stadio Tardini turf.

Cagliari incredibly hit the upright for the third time, when Jacopo Fazzini burst through the middle, his strike was palmed onto the post by Edoardo Corvi, and it bounced back into the goalkeeper’s grateful arms.

The Sardinians eventually took a deserved lead with an absolute screamer from distance, as Alessandro Romano’s rocket bent back Corvi’s hand to fly into the top corner. He celebrated by holding up the jersey of teammate Trepy, who was watching from hospital.
