Headline: Serie A Forward Yael Trepy Hospitalized After Swimming Pool Incident
Serie A forward Yael Trepy is currently hospitalized under “pharmacological sedation” and on a ventilator following a loss of consciousness in a swimming pool in Sardinia.
The 20-year-old player was airlifted to hospital after being rescued from the swimming pool at a villa on Sunday afternoon.
On Tuesday, Cagliari released a statement from the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, detailing Trepy’s condition. The statement revealed that Trepy was “fever free” and that his “respiratory function” had improved since his severe condition at the time of admission.
If his recovery continues positively, medical staff plan to initiate a “gradual reduction in sedation.” However, the statement also acknowledged that “the prognosis remains guarded.”
According to reports from BBC Sport, Trepy had been swimming with friends when he encountered difficulty in an area of the pool that was too deep for him to reach the bottom.
Cagliari players had the weekend off after their 1-0 victory over Arezzo in the Coppa Italia on Friday, a match in which Trepy contributed 54 minutes of play.
Last season, Trepy scored once in eight Serie A appearances after moving up from Cagliari’s youth program. He joined the academy in 2022, previously starting his youth career with US Creteil-Lusitanos in Paris.
