Rangers face a setback in their pursuit of Farès Ghedjemis after Frosinone rejected an initial bid of £8 million for the Algeria international. According to Sky Sports News, the Serie A newcomers swiftly dismissed the proposal just days after Celtic also had a £6 million offer turned down for the same player, intensifying the Old Firm transfer rivalry.

Rangers See £8m Bid Rejected by Frosinone

Frosinone has made their position clear. With their recent promotion to Serie A, the club is under no pressure to sell unless a suitable valuation is met. Rangers had hoped that a revised offer would entice the Italian side, but their response came swiftly.

The interest in Ghedjemis is justified. The forward had an outstanding 2025/26 season, tallying 15 goals and three assists in 37 Serie B matches, amassing 3,024 minutes on the pitch. His performance was instrumental in Frosinone’s promotion. He then secured a spot in Algeria’s World Cup squad and appeared as a substitute in the tournament against Austria as the Desert Foxes progressed to the Round of 32.

Sky Sports News reports that Frosinone still anticipates a much higher transfer fee, despite ongoing interest from both clubs in Glasgow.

T4O Take: Rangers Should Avoid Overpaying

There is no doubt that Ghedjemis would add value to Rangers, filling a gap in goal-scoring from wide positions. His confidence in taking on defenders and calm finishing stands out. However, the club needs to establish a spending limit. Reports indicate that Frosinone is seeking between €15 million and €20 million, approximately £13 million to £17 million, significantly exceeding Rangers’ current offer and surpassing their long-standing transfer record.

Allocating that kind of money for one player could create complications elsewhere in the squad. Effective squad building typically does not reward clubs that invest heavily in a single acquisition.

Rangers Should Focus on Smarter Spending

Frosinone is strategically leveraging interest from Celtic and Rangers to their advantage, allowing them to potentially inflate their asking price further, with no urgency to negotiate quickly.

Instead of pursuing one high-priced target, Derek McInnes could benefit from distributing the £8 million across multiple positions. Selling a key player like Nicolas Raskin to make up the difference would weaken the squad in another area. Other options, such as Mark O’Mahony and Amario Cozier-Duberry, are available, making a calculated approach more sensible than meeting Frosinone’s valuation.
