Rangers Sign Young Serbian Midfielder Vanja Dragojevic from Partizan Belgrade

Rangers have signed Serbia midfielder Vanja Dragojevic from Partizan Belgrade for an undisclosed fee.

The 20-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Scottish Premiership club, with the option for a further year.

Dragojevic, who has two caps for his country, captained Partizan after coming through their youth ranks.

“We are really excited to bring Vanja on board,” said manager Derek McInnes.

“He’s got huge potential, really exciting attributes, and boasts the character to play in this environment.

“To captain a club the size of FK Partizan at such a young age tells you everything you need to know about the respect he commands and the leadership qualities he already possesses.

“I believe he will add a lot to our group, and I look forward to working with him in the years ahead.”

Having joined Partizan’s youth system in 2021, Dragojevic signed a professional contract two years later and was sent on loan to third-tier Teleoptik.

Within four months, he signed a new deal until 2030 with a reported release clause of £12.75m and made his first-team debut for Partizan in March last year.

He became a regular starter and captain last season, scoring four times in 41 appearances and providing four assists, while playing mainly as a defensive midfielder as Partizan finished third in the Serbian SuperLiga.

Dragojevic played in both legs of Partizan’s Conference League third qualifying round defeat by Hibernian, when the Serbian side won 3-2 at Easter Road despite finishing with 10 men, but went out 4-3 on aggregate after extra time.

He made his international debut as a second-half substitute as Cape Verde warmed up for the World Cup finals with a 3-0 win over Serbia in May, before he started in a 5-1 thrashing by tournament co-hosts Mexico.
