Franco Mastantuono Shines at Fiorentina, Earns Call-Up to Argentina National Team
Real Madrid loaned Franco Mastantuono to Fiorentina last summer to provide him with regular game time and help him adapt to European football.
The 19-year-old South American talent experienced challenges during his initial season in the Spanish capital, despite a promising start.
However, after a slow adjustment period, Mastantuono’s performances at Fiorentina have begun to improve significantly.
Following a standout goalscoring performance against Sassuolo, the young player has received international recognition.
Argentina’s coach, Lionel Scaloni, has included Mastantuono in the squad for the international break in November. The World Cup runners-up will play friendlies against Uruguay and Costa Rica on November 13 and 17.
Mastantuono’s selection comes after his return to the national team setup back in September.
Mastantuono’s Strong Performance Earns Accolades
Against Sassuolo, Mastantuono contributed not only with a goal but also excelled in possession, completing three dribbles, winning six duels, and making six ball recoveries.
His latest goal increased his Serie A tally to four in his first ten appearances, marking an impressive record for a teenager acclimating to Italian football.
He has now made history as the second-youngest player to score four Serie A goals in his first ten matches.
Mastantuono has demonstrated growing confidence on the field, enhancing his overall impact on attacking play. This development aligns with what Real Madrid hoped for when they loaned him out, and positive outcomes appear to be unfolding.
Increased Recognition Boosts Real Madrid’s Long-Term Goals
Had Mastantuono remained at Real Madrid, he would have faced limited opportunities to play, given the depth of attacking options at manager José Mourinho’s disposal. At 19, he needed consistent playing time to cultivate his skills.
Mastantuono is making considerable progress during his loan, prompting Scaloni to keep him in mind for the national team as they plan for the future without Lionel Messi.
Competition for spots on the national team is fierce, particularly with players like Nico Paz also vying for minutes. Mastantuono must continue to demonstrate his worth to secure a place under Scaloni.
While uncertainties remain regarding Mastantuono’s future at Real Madrid and Mourinho’s plans for him in coming seasons, a successful loan could attract attention from other European clubs and potentially secure a good transfer fee for the club.
The coming weeks will reveal how Mastantuono performs, both for Argentina and in the ongoing season.
