Liverpool’s Curtis Jones Transfer Talks with Inter Milan Hit Snags

Richard Hughes has been at the centre of all of Liverpool‘s transfer dealings for the last couple of years.

He was the man in charge when the Reds broke the British transfer record twice last term and was also behind the sales of players such as Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

Most people expected his job to be fairly easy during the 2026-27 summer transfer window as he spent over £450 million on new additions but, since things didn’t go to plan, Liverpool look likely to go through another big-spending window.

And, while this may help them improve their ranks, another campaign of changes could lead to another transitional season which is the last thing that Liverpool will want.

Indeed, the Reds will still need to get used to Andoni Iraola’s style of play but, if they can do it with the same core of players, it would make things much easier.

So, with this in mind, this latest update will be exactly what Liverpool’s fans will have wanted to hear.

Inter Milan’s negotiations with Liverpool for Curtis Jones are slowing down

Curtis Jones is one of the main players who was expected to leave Liverpool this summer.

The Englishman rarely had any playing time while Arne Slot was in charge which led to him looking for a way out of Anfield.

That is, despite some of his teammates putting in their worst-ever performances in Liverpool shirts.

However, now that Iraola is at the helm and has said that he wants to keep Jones at Anfield, it feels like the midfielder could be about to perform a U-turn and stay at the club.

That is, especially after the latest update on his situation from La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“However, despite the interest, negotiations with Liverpool have slowed down,” they wrote.

“Jones is popular for his versatility, experience, and future prospects. Last year, he even played as a full-back.

“Another drawback to the deal remains the cost: Inter are willing to offer €25-30 million, while Liverpool are asking for at least €40 million to let the player leave.”

£33.9 million should still not be enough money for Liverpool to consider selling Curtis Jones

As mentioned, even though he wasn’t called upon much last term, Jones was still one of Liverpool’s best-performers when Slot chose to play him.

The amount of energy he brought to the Reds’ XI was second-to-none with his ability to attack and defend also a massive help.

Admittedly, Jones’ playing style may not have been best-suited to Slot’s tactics, but, even though he only has a year left on his current deal, a bid worth £33.9 million still doesn’t feel like enough for the Reds to consider letting the Scouser leave.

He’s one of the only Scousers left among Liverpool’s ranks at the moment and, if given the chance, he could easily become Iraola’s version of Steven Gerrard.

if Alexis Mac Allister does end up leaving, it will be incredibly hard for Liverpool to find a replacement for him.

There’s obviously no knowing what the future has in store for Iraola and his men but, if it doesn’t include Jones, some serious questions will need to be asked.
