Sadio Mané Announces Retirement from International Football
A new chapter begins for the Senegal national team.
Just days after Senegal’s narrow 2-3 defeat to Belgium in the 2026 World Cup round of 16, Sadio Mané has announced his retirement from international football. The veteran forward confirmed the news in a statement released by the Senegalese media outlet Le Quotidien.
At 34, the captain of the Lions of Teranga concludes a decorated 14-year international career, during which he earned 130 caps for his country.
The former Liverpool winger, who rose to prominence in France with FC Metz and led Senegal to victory in the 2021 AFCON, retires as a legendary figure in Senegalese football.
“Know that I sacrificed everything for this flag. I gave the very best of myself and I always fought fiercely for our homeland,” Mané said in his statement published by Le Quotidien.
