Sunderland Target River Plate Midfielder Matias Galarza for Summer Transfer
According to a recent report by El Intransigente, Sunderland plans to pursue River Plate midfielder Matias Galarza this summer. The Black Cats intend to bring the Paraguay international to the Stadium of Light during the current off-season.
Galarza’s Recent Loan Spell At Atlanta United
Galarza delivered a series of impressive performances during his recent loan spell with the MLS club. The 24-year-old made 13 appearances for Atlanta United across all competitions last season.
The Paraguay international currently ranks among the most talented midfielders in his home country. Consequently, Sunderland hopes to secure his services at the Stadium of Light this summer.
His contract with River Plate runs until the end of 2028, which may complicate efforts for the Black Cats to sign him for a low fee later this year.
Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Snap Galarza Up This Summer?
Galarza excels at tackling and reads the game well to regain possession for his team in the defensive half. He clears the ball decisively when necessary and maintains composure as a passer.
Standing at 1.75m, the Paraguayan midfielder possesses high energy and stamina in the center of the pitch, though he may lack aerial strength. While primarily a box-to-box midfielder, Galarza can also operate as a number ten or on the left wing. However, some questions remain regarding his ability to adapt to the physical demands and high intensity of the Premier League should Sunderland complete the signing.
Galarza could provide a boost to the midfield options available to Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris. He has the potential to compete for a regular first-team position at the Stadium of Light next season.
