Cardiff City Teenager Axel Donczew Joins Arsenal’s Scholarship Intake

Cardiff City teenager Axel Donczew has officially joined Arsenal as part of the Premier League champions’ inaugural scholarship intake. The 16-year-old attacking midfielder gained attention last October when he made history as Cardiff’s youngest-ever senior player, a record that was recently surpassed in August by Noah Anyadike.

Despite Cardiff’s efforts to secure Donczew’s continued development with the club and to offer him terms, the player decided to move away from the Welsh capital.

In addition to joining Arsenal, Donczew has signed a pre-contract agreement that the north London club states will result in him signing professional terms in the future.

The academy product has represented Wales at youth level and holds eligibility to play for Poland. Notably, Donczew debuted at just 15 years and 234 days old, coming on as a substitute during Cardiff’s EFL Trophy match against Newport County. He also made a second appearance for the first team last December, again appearing as a substitute in an EFL Trophy match, this time against Wimbledon.

Cardiff say the club offered terms for Donczew to continue his development with the Bluebirds and made efforts to retain the player, but said he “opted to pursue a move away from the Welsh capital”.

Donczew has also signed a pre-contract agreement with Arsenal, a move the north London club say will “lead to him signing professional terms with us”.
