Exeter City Captain Jack Fitzwater to Miss FA Cup Tie Against Huddersfield Town
Exeter City will face a challenge in their upcoming FA Cup first-round match against League One leaders Huddersfield Town without the services of captain Jack Fitzwater. The 29-year-old defender, who has been a key player for the Grecians throughout the season, will miss the match due to a procedure for a toe injury, as confirmed by manager Matt Taylor.
The duration of Fitzwater’s absence remains uncertain. Taylor acknowledged his captain’s importance, stating, “He’s our captain, our leader, our most consistent player to date, but with everything, it’s an opportunity elsewhere.”
With Fitzwater sidelined, Taylor noted that Ed James, who recently lost his starting position due to international duty, is prepared to step in. He mentioned the team’s versatility, saying, “We can move Luca (Woodhouse) inside, we can play Vinny (Harper), we’ve got options.”
The manager expressed confidence in his squad’s ability to adapt without Fitzwater and looks forward to seeing how other players perform in this opportunity. Taylor added that this absence might offer a much-needed break for Fitzwater from league commitments.
