Toulouse FC Secures 3-1 Victory Over Strasbourg, Ending Goal Drought
Toulouse FC bounced back from two weekends without a goal as they defeated RC Strasbourg Alsace 3-1 in a Ligue 1 match at the Stadium de Toulouse.
As fog enveloped the stadium, the first half of the match was characterized by a sluggish pace, but the intensity picked up as the game progressed. Toulouse entered the match struggling for goals, having failed to score in three of their last four home encounters. In contrast, Strasbourg aimed to carry momentum from a recent 5-1 win over AJ Auxerre after experiencing four consecutive defeats.
The game began with both teams vying for control in midfield, engaging in a physical battle. Although there were moments of good passing from both sides, the first half produced limited scoring opportunities. The fog reduced visibility, contributing to a somewhat uninspired first half.
Toulouse’s performance began to improve just before halftime when Santiago Hidalgo aimed a shot towards the bottom corner, but Strasbourg’s Filip Jörgensen managed to deflect it. Shortly thereafter, Hidalgo broke the deadlock by scoring his first goal of the season following a scramble in the box, with the goal passing a lengthy VAR check for a potential handball.
In the 56th minute, Toulouse doubled their lead from a corner kick taken by Cristian Cásseres Jr. Mark McKenzie rose unchallenged to head the ball into the net, solidifying their advantage. Strasbourg remained largely uninspired throughout the match, struggling to create significant threats.
Hope flickered for Strasbourg when US international Giovanni Reyna scored, tricking the goalkeeper with a well-placed shot. However, Toulouse quickly regained their two-goal cushion, with Thomas Jørgensen finding the net from another set-piece.
As the final whistle approached, Strasbourg could not elevate their performance, ultimately suffering their sixth defeat of the season. With an international break on the horizon, questions began to arise regarding the future of head coach Hugo Oliveira, as fans pondered whether the break might serve as a critical juncture for the team.
