Newport County Suffer First Pre-Season Defeat Against Gloucester City
Newport County fell to a 2-1 defeat against Southern League Premier side Gloucester City during their latest pre-season friendly.
Defender Lee Jenkins opened the scoring for the League Two visitors at Meadow Park, heading home a delivery from Harrison Biggins to secure a first-half lead.
Gloucester City responded effectively after the break, turning the game around by scoring two goals within the opening 18 minutes of the second period.
Newport’s pursuit of an equalizer faced a significant setback when one of their three trialists received a second yellow card. The player was dismissed 21 minutes from time, despite entering the match as a half-time substitute.
This result marks the first pre-season loss for Newport under the guidance of interim manager Chris Todd, following previous victories against Bristol Manor Farm and Newport City. Gloucester City is currently managed by Dafydd Williams, a former assistant and interim manager at Newport.
