In a recent segment on Youtube, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano offered an update on the future of Manchester City midfielder Rodri. Romano said,

“At the moment, Rodri has a new contract proposal on the table from Manchester City.

“It will now be up to Rodri to decide whether he wants to accept it or remain at Man City for one more season before potentially leaving as a free agent in 2027.

“Let me mention this again because many Real Madrid fans continue asking about the situation, especially after yesterday’s final and Rodri’s outstanding World Cup. Rodri dreams of playing for Real Madrid.

“He would love to join Real Madrid one day. From the player’s side, that opportunity remains a dream.

“He came through the youth system at Atletico Madrid, so returning to Madrid, returning to Spain, and playing for Real Madrid is something he would love.”

Rodri’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football

Rodri enjoyed a good run of form at the Mancunian club in the previous campaign when he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. However, he missed a lot of games for Man City last season due to injury. Still, Rodri did well to score two goals in 33 matches for them across various competitions.

His current deal at the Etihad Stadium will run out at the end of next season. Hence, Man City would have to cash in on him this summer or else risk losing him as a free agent next year.

What Should Manchester City Boss Enzo Maresca Do With Regards To Rodri?

Rodri loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and is a tidy passer as well from midfield.

The Spaniard can even contribute by scoring the odd goal for his team. Rodri has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and remains an integral member of Man City’s squad. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also serve as a central midfielder if asked to do so.

However, Rodri has entered the final year of his contract at the Mancunian club. Hence, Man City boss Enzo Maresca would be desperate to keep hold of him by tying him down to a new contract.

At 30, Rodri has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Therefore, it makes sense for Man City to keep hold of him beyond next summer. However, Maresca should only consider cashing in on him if he fails to convince the player to commit his long-term future to the club.
