Wolverhampton Wanderers Secures Jordan James on Loan with Purchase Option
Wolverhampton Wanderers has officially announced the signing of Wales midfielder Jordan James on loan, which includes an option to buy at the conclusion of the season.
The 26-cap international makes his return to the Midlands nearly two years after departing his boyhood club Birmingham City for a reported £4 million transfer to French Ligue 1 side Rennes.
Last season, James played on loan for Leicester City in the East Midlands, where he impressed with 11 goals from midfield, earning recognition as the club’s player of the season despite Leicester’s relegation to League One.
During the 2024-25 campaign, he made 24 appearances for Rennes across all competitions in Brittany. Head coach Cesar Peixoto praised James’ skill set, stating, “Jordan is a box-to-box midfielder, with a lot of quality, and knows the Championship well which is important for us.” He added, “He is a clever player, an intelligent player, and can play in two or three positions in our way of playing and structure. The more players who know the Championship, the better.”
Jordan James is also the son of semi-professional Welsh defender Tony James, who accumulated over 500 league appearances with clubs such as Hereford United, Burton Albion, and Newport County.
With this acquisition, James becomes Wolverhampton’s fourth signing of the summer and the second since Peixoto’s appointment in June, following Kieran Trippier, Raul Jimenez, and Rafiki Said.
